If you’re like me you desire to memorize scripture but don’t know where to start, or just don’t think you can do it. David Mathis, from desiringGod.org, has written an article on how to start the process. I really liked his take on keeping a verse “warm” and hidden in your heart. That hidden verse becomes a sword of Spirit that you have ready to deploy when the enemy strikes.
He suggests starting with one-sentence verses that can be memorized easily and hidden in your heart. He was even gracious enough to list 10 verses to begin memorization of the Word.
Attached is the article, with the hope that it gives you the confidence to choose a verse that pertains to your situation, or one that you can hide for a time in the future. Hiding God’s Word in your heart is one sure way of throwing off the evil in this world when it strikes. I’m going to be with you on this journey of memorization, stop by and let me know how you are doing.
