Kids and Bible Reading

A W Tozer is quoted as saying “Nothing less than a whole Bible can make a whole Christian.”

In the Kids Rock department, this summer the book Nothing Less, Engaging Kids in a Lifetime of Faith by Jana Magruder is being studied.  Many thought provoking and interesting statistics are given to show the complexity of holding onto child-like faith as one develops into a young adult.

As we read this week, one statistic stood out from all the rest and gave immeasurable hope for the development of God loving young adults.  That statistic was the regular reading of God’s word. Statistics show that children regularly reading their bible was the biggest spiritual influencers and predictor for stronger and spiritually health young adults.  “The Bible points us to Jesus, the only true Way, so this first influencer makes perfect sense. Regular Bible reading makes the greatest difference in a child’s long term spiritual health. (Lifeway Research, Nothing Less Study, 2016).

The first link below shows just what a child, at various ages, can comprehend about 10 key categories (God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, Bible, Salvation, Creation, Church, People, Family, Community and World).  Check it out, it is so informative and offers such great insight.

The second provides milestone Bible skills for students at all ages.  Some examples are “Using Scripture Memory with Kids, The Most Important Verses, Church/Parent Connection, and Foundational Stories. Again, this link offers many great thoughts and ideas that are also age appropriate.

My hope is that through the tools that you and your family are given through Kids Rock and the helps below, Bible reading can become a regular event, if it hasn’t been thus far.  It is so important, for both parent and child.

Blessings to you and your family as you search out your routine for studying God’s word and equipping the Saints as they progress through childhood and on into the adult world.
